   SA Document Body
Multiple Security Vulnerabilities in Firefox Versions Prior to 3.5.2 May
Allow Execution of Arbitrary Code or Application Crash

   1. Impact
Multiple security vulnerabilities with varying impacts affect Firefox
(see firefox(1)) versions prior to 3.5.2 as shipped with OpenSolaris.
These vulnerabilities may allow an unprivileged remote user to execute
arbitrary code on the system where Firefox is being run or to crash
the Firefox application which is a type of Denial of Service (DoS).
The following URL provides additional details about the
vulnerabilities addressed in Firefox versions 3.5.1 and 3.5.2:

   http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox35.html

The following Mozilla advisories describe the vulnerabilities:

   MFSA 2009-35 at
   http://www.mozilla.org/security/announce/2009/mfsa2009-35.html
   MFSA 2009-38 at
   http://www.mozilla.org/security/announce/2009/mfsa2009-38.html
   MFSA 2009-41 at
   http://www.mozilla.org/security/announce/2009/mfsa2009-41.html
   MFSA 2009-44 at
   http://www.mozilla.org/security/announce/2009/mfsa2009-44.html
   MFSA 2009-45 at

   MFSA 2009-46 at
   http://www.mozilla.org/security/announce/2009/mfsa2009-46.html

The following are the CVE identifiers that pertain to this security
   issue:

   CVE-2009-2467 at
   http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2009-2467
   CVE-2009-2470 at
   http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2009-2470
   CVE-2009-2477 at
   http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2009-2477
   CVE-2009-2654 at
   http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2009-2654

   2. Contributing Factors
This issue can occur in the following releases:
   SPARC Platform
     * OpenSolaris builds snv_119 through snv_121

   x86 Platform
     * OpenSolaris builds snv_119 through snv_121

   Notes:
   1. Solaris 8 and 9 do not include Firefox and therefore are not
   impacted by these issues.
   2. Solaris 10 does not currently include Firefox 3.x and OpenSolaris
prior to snv_95 does not include Firefox 3.x.
   3. The 2.x version of Firefox currently shipped in Solaris 10 may be
affected by these issues in which case a separate Sun Alert describing
the resolution for Solaris 10 will be published.
OpenSolaris distributions may include additional bug fixes above and
beyond the build from which it was derived. The base build can be
   derived as follows:
      $ uname -v
      snv_119

   3. Symptoms
There are no predictable symptoms that would indicate the described
   issue has occurred.

   4. Workaround
Until firefox can be updated users of Firefox 3.5 can avoid the
exploitable memory corruption issue related to the Just-in-Time (JIT)
compiler by disabling the JIT compiler as described in the Mozilla
   Security Blog at:

   http://blog.mozilla.com/security/2009/07/14/critical-javascript-vu
   lnerability-in-firefox-35/

MFSA 2009-45 can be worked around by disabling JavaScript by following
   the steps below:

   1. Open the "Preferences" dialog from the Edit menu
   2. Select the "Content" tab
   3. Uncheck the "Enable JavaScript" check box

   5. Resolution
This issue is addressed in the following releases:
   SPARC Platform
     * OpenSolaris build snv_122 or later

   x86 Platform
     * OpenSolaris build snv_122 or later
